need for transparency

two days post prelimns every available forum is full of frantic people getting into approximate calculations to find out whether they stand a remote chance or not.......while there is not much that can be done at this stage, one does wonder that even when say 3 months later the results will finally be declared......will most candidates be satisfied??????in this age of increased transparency should we not be given the exact marking and most importantly, the "scaling formula" used by the upsc????????i acn understand the reluctance to give details.....it could cause some serious heartburn to those on the other side of result due to scaling, but i ask a more fundamental question-
1.is it better to not know why you missed out and be in confusion(ignorance is bliss ie)
2.or is it better to know why you missed out and feel miserable about it?????
i prefer the second but i am aware many prefer the first......however so much secrecy surrounding the premier examination only adds to the notoriety and exclusivity that 'babudom' exudes....if anything, our civi services need a good pr machinery in place....maybe they can take a cue from a paris hilton(famous for being famous) or some other such person(the salahis maybe?'white house must apologize!!)
what i so know is this closely guarded super secret scaling formula acts as a deterrent to many and is not the most desirable proposition
